Meet the special guests

We’ve got plenty of gardening experts sharing their knowledge

We’re really excited to have some of the country’s top gardening experts joining us for the show. Our celebrity guest will be BBC presenter and floral designer Jonathan Moseley who will bring plenty of charisma and a different focus for our gardening theatre this year.

jonathan moseley

Jonathan is a well-known floral designer and popular demonstrator across the UK and abroad. A keen gardener, Jonathan grows a wide selection of plants in his Derbyshire garden and he also actively promotes British grown flowers in his amazing designs. Through the summer, Jonathan regularly attends flower shows where he entertains the audiences with his amazing floral demonstrations. On TV Jonathan was the floral art judge on the BBC’s Big Allotment Challenge and he is a past-President of the North of England Horticultural Society.

martin fish

Martin started his career as an apprentice gardener 40 years ago and went on to become the youngest head gardener in the country, Still, very much a practical hands-on gardener, Martin writes for Garden News and Kitchen Garden magazine and broadcasts weekly on BBC Radio York & BBC Nottingham. He is a senior RHS judge, a Garden Advisor for RHS Garden Harlow Carr in Harrogate and a regular speaker at flower shows and garden clubs around the country.

Jill has always enjoyed cooking, especially when using fresh fruit and vegetables from their North Yorkshire garden. As a home-cook, Jill has collated many recipes over the years from family and friends and recently co-wrote ‘Gardening on the Menu’ with husband Martin. Martin looks at the growing side and Jill turns the fresh produce into delicious, easy to cook dishes. When not cooking, Jill gardens, writes a cookery blog and gives talks and demonstrations with Martin.

helen bainbridge

Helen is a leading pelargonium expert and for over 20 years exhibited as Fir Trees Pelargonium Nursery and won an incredible 87 RHS Gold medals. Helen is now retired from exhibiting but keeps busy developing her own garden in North Yorkshire that she opens for group visits through the summer. She is a vice-chair of the RHS Tender Ornamental Plant Committee and a senior judge at all the RHS Flower shows.

sarah hopps

Sarah developed her love of plants and gardening while running her own cottage-garden nursery. A former panellist on BBC Radio York’s gardening programmes, Sarah now spends much of her time acting as a tour guide escorting groups around gardens in Britain and Europe. During the winter months Sarah is an active speaker to groups and societies all over the country. She is also a Council member of the North of England Horticultural Society.
